We are most interested in proposals focused on proving the technical feasibility of an innovation for achieving the targeted use for the recycled material. We are unlikely to fund proposals to incinerate the reclaimed materials but might be interested in those that convert the material into new or synthetic fuels. We are unlikely to fund projects to further develop research topics already receiving funding or that focus on existing uses of reclaimed mattress materials. Sign Up Connecticut State Impact How to Recycle Public Documents Resources Contact Strengthening Connecticut’s Environment One Mattress at a Time The Mattress Recycling Council’s Bye Bye Mattress program is an example of Connecticut’s environmental leadership and the industry’s commitment to sustainability. 2 Million mattresses collected since 2015 32,750 tons of material recycled 157 communities offer direct access to the program more than 394 public and private entities participate Review our 10-Year Impact Report Offering Convenient and No-Cost Recycling MRC’s Bye Bye Mattress is accessible to residents throughout Connecticut, offering no-cost opportunities for residents to discard their used mattresses. Mattresses are collected through a variety of channels, offering consumers and businesses options for recycling. 157 communities offer direct access to the program through town transfer stations, public works yards, collection events, and municipal curbside pickup programs. In addition, more than 394 other public and private entities across Connecticut participate in the program including mattress retailers, hotels, universities, junk haulers and apartment complexes. MRC continues to expand participation from municipal transfer stations, as well as increase the number of mattresses collected from retailers, hotels and educational facilities for recycling. more than 135 drop-off locations 2 recycling facility locations serving Connecticut 13 towns hold seasonal mattress collection events each year On the Ground in Connecticut Raising Awareness and Educating Consumers MRC raises awareness of the value of mattress recycling in Connecticut. MRC has implemented extensive outreach to educate consumers about mattress recycling through its Bye Bye Mattress brand, which features a unique logo and consumer-facing website, ByeByeMattress.com . More than 4 million consumers have visited the website, which offers residents an easy locator tool to find their nearest mattress recycling location or event. MRC provides extensive consumer education and outreach in Connecticut. This includes point-of-sale materials that explain the recycling fee, public service announcements, social media campaigns, digital communications and community outreach at events. MRC works to stop illegal dumping and find new end markets for mattress materials. As an organization dedicated to recycling, MRC also works to curb illegal mattress dumping and find new end markets and better uses for recycled mattress materials.
